The contract workers made up for less than half of one percent of all United States employment in the 1980s but the trend has massively changed as the economy starts to get in better shape and now the part time workers account for 2.3% of the employment structure. The economists believe that the contract workers will be playing a larger role in the years ahead.

The part time or for hire workers include an army of aborers, ranging from janitors, security officers, home-care and food service-workers to computer programmers, freelance photographers and illustrators. Many are involved in manufacturing. Many of the workers are self-employed and some are working under contracts that lay out specific responsibility and deadlines.

The online job site CareetBuilder.com, which has its specialties in “contract placement,” has reproted that 42% of the employers intend to hire temporary or contract workers as a part of their 2014 staffing strategy, that has been reported to be 14% increase over the past five years.
